Poppy
This plant comes from Asia Minor. According to Greek mythology it was the sacred plant of Demeter, the goddess of the fertility of the earth. It is one of the most ancient crops grown in our country, which was chosen as the herb of the year in 2017. One teaspoon of poppy seeds provides four per cent of the daily intake of calcium and phosphorus we need in order for our bones to stay strong and healthy. The high phosphorus content of poppy seeds helps the absorption of calcium into the bones, so it plays a crucial role in preventing osteoporosis.
